My specialty is carefully transitioning horses out of metal shoes.

Some horses are immediately comfortable barefoot. Some may need a transition period with composite glue on shoes or boots. I take great care to monitor changes and note pathologies and discuss with the owner. All of my hoof care clients are encouraged to review nutrition in order to best help their horse succeed.

I do not replace the expertise of a veterinarian, but I have invested extensive time and energy into studying modern hoof care and the NRC (National Research Council) dietary requirements, with additional focus on metabolic horses.

I recognize an exceptional metal shoe application may offer more success than composite shoes or boots. My goal is always happy horses and confident owners whether I am providing the hoof care or not.

Barefoot trimming, boots, and composite glue on shoes are simply my area of expertise.

Pulling Shoes

For some horses coming out of metal shoes may trigger a “healing crisis” in which discomfort may be noted for the first several days. Because of this possibility, I have a specific method for barefoot transitions if I will not be putting the horse into glue on shoes immediately out of metal. Shoes are pulled, very minimal trimming is performed. A layer of Hoof Armor is applied. After 7-14 days I return to reassess and trim.
